Services for homeless families with children

San Jose Family Shelter

The only shelter in Santa Clara County that exclusively serves single and two-parent families. The Shelter provides up to 35 families with a private room and support services for up to 90 days, in a clean and safe environment. Here we address and provide basic needs of each family so that time and energy are directed to finding employment and permanent housing. Intensive case management assists clients in developing a detailed, step-by-step plan to become self-sufficient.

Case Managers provide supportive counseling, referrals for housing, employment services, budgeting services, health care services, workshops, parenting classes, and ESL education.   While families are enrolled in the Program at San Jose Family Shelter  they receive the below services.

Intensive Case Management and Education Each family is assigned a case manager at Intake and meets with their case manager a minimum of one time per week. Families set a case plan for themselves and work on achieving their set goals with their case manager.
Medical Case Management and Education Each client will meet with a Medical Case Manager to discuss their and their family’s health needs. Resources and referrals are given as needed, including mental health referrals, Gardner Health Van visits, linking the family to a student nurse, etc.
Housing Search Residents who are ready to move into market rate rentals are offered both one-on-one and group housing search appointments. Working with the Housing Search Specialist ensures that residents are being represented in this competitive housing market.
Clothes Closet Shelter residents have access to an on-site Clothes Closet. They can shop once per week and get what they need for their family.
Various Evening Workshops Workshops run Monday through Thursday and address a wide array of topics including fair housing, budgeting, positive communication, ALANON, etc.
